Power of Small Talk In Business
The Important of small talk in in business and how to close a deal with small talk
When Was the last time you speak to stranger?

It’s hard for most people after FaceBook era.

People love to chat more than talk outside.

Give reactions on posts is much easier than making small talk.

Seem like the real essence of human interaction is the lost art for the future generations.

In order to sell your product or service, you need to make conversation apart from posting it online.

So how do we sale without small talk?

Most think starting business in digital mean,

  • Create a page
  • Post cool photos
  • Give discount
  • Post contents
  • But that’s only part of the process.

    What we need is the engagement with real people.

    I mean real engagement, not the engagement status shown by the digital platform.

    If no one ask you about your product, that’s mean nobody is giving a fuck about your product .

    We need that small talk to make it happen.

    So how do we talk to get sale?

    That’s a million dollar question of course.

    If you start conversation with

    “Here is my product and here is my price” , people will run away for sure.

    Would you listen that kind of conversation? It’s sounds so sale oriented.

    3 Ingredients of Small Talk That Lead to Sale
  • Show your interest to the person first
  • Generate Curiosity
  • Make Them Want
  • Show your interest → everyone like getting interested ( don’t you? ) if someone ask about you with “Curiosity”, most of the time you end up telling about you to that person. Listen careful to those words they utter to you. There might be some pain or problem they might want to solve. If you have solution (Boom! You can go to next step )
  • Generate Curiosity → No, not yet, don’t tell about your product or service yet. Just ask them “Imagine what your life would be look like if that pain or problem is solved? “. The magic word is not Bipiti Bapitti Boo. It’s “Imagine”. Now you can talk that it is possible and you have solution
  • Make Them Want → No not yet, don’t shoot the price yet. Tell about how many people transformed by your product already ( that would make them trust ). Answer the points they might afraid to commit and say No.
  • I learn this from my Barber 💇🏻‍♂️

    I just break down and reverse engineered ( typical La Pyae method of learning things)

    Conversation Start like this when Electricity black out.

    Barber : Electricity is not reliable these day, that’s why I am using battery power product

    Me : Oh yeah need to charge device full to prevent losing data, it getting worse these day

    Barber: Oh you work with computer? What do you do ?

    Me : I do design, code and teaching

    Barber: Wow, that’s why your head is hot, energy is radiating . Don’t your hair fall off often?

    Me: Oh yeah! It do fall off whenever I wash my hair, not a lot but some (knowing he is building up sale conversation 😝)

    Barber: Yeah, just like all men, we all fall of hair, as we don’t care like woman do. Rite ?

    Me: Yeah ! ( knowing that he is creating connection to find something that can relate )

    Barber: But don’t worry it could fix easily, one of my customer he grow his hair back and stop falling off after using this hair serum.

    Me: …… ( okay here we go he is trying to sale me )

    Barber: No chemical , all with natural ingredients and pretty cheap.

    Me: Ahh I know those kind of product, it need to apply daily rite?

    Barber: oh nah, if you tell me to drink some med everyday, I won’t . We are men we don’t do daily routines. 😆 we only shower if we have to. Just apply when you remember, like 2 or 3 time a week and you are good.

    Me: (two of my concern gone, safe and no need hard work ). That’s sounds cool . The Bottle is big ?

    Barber: Nah it just tiny one, I will apply you after hair cut.

    Me: okay…

    After applied, it’s doesn’t smell bad, look legit and feel comfortable. I ask for price. Then it lead me to try out one.

    This is the whole process of small talk and that lead to sale.
